The 2008 Bald Head
Island Regatta is sponsored by Bald Head Island Limited, Mount Gay Rum,
Carolina Blonde, Southport Boatworks and others and hosted by organizing
authorities Bald Head Island Sailing (BHIS), Carolina Yacht Club (CYC), Cape
Fear Yacht Club (CFYC), and the Wrightsville Beach Ocean Racing Association
(WBORA).
1 Rules
The regatta will
be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008 and the prescriptions of US
Sailing. One design boats will be
governed by their respective class rules.
All boats entered in PHRF classes shall have a current NC-PHRF rating
certificate. All boats shall carry an
operating VHF radio.
2 Eligibility and Entry
2.1 The regatta is open to One Design boats and PHRF
boats at least 20 LOA, but less than 60 feet LOA) that meet the Coast Guard and
NCDNR requirements, and by delivering a completed entry form and paying the
appropriate entry fee No Later Than Friday, April 4, 2008, 1000.
2.2 Eligible
boats may be entered in advance by completing a copy of the entry form and
sending it with a copy of the NC-PHRF Certificate and appropriate fee to: Bald Head

Early entries are encouraged to secure discounts and free dockage. For an NC-PHRF Certificate, please visit www.ncphrf.com. Provisional PHRF ratings may be assigned by
BHIR Management.
3 Fees
Registration includes 1 event pass, a competitor’s
bag and a pro-rated number of Mount
Gay Rum hats based on registration payment date.

5 Sailing Instructions
The
Sailing Instructions will be available online and at registration.
6 Regatta Description
6.1 Five to nine races are planned.
The completion of one race shall constitute a regatta. PHRF entrants may enter the Spinnaker or Non
Spinnaker Fleets. Four or more boats of
the same type may be sailed as a
One-Design Class within the Fleet.
6.2 The races shall be sailed in the ocean east of the
Cape Fear River Inlet or in the Cape Fear River depending on conditions.
6.3 Courses will be windward-leeward or other.
7 Scoring
The low point
scoring system, RRS Appendix A2 will be used except that each boat's total
score will be the sum of her scores for all races. PHRF Time Allowances shall be calculated using handicaps from
NC-PHRF and Time on Time Scoring. The Time correction factor shall be
650/(550+phrf)
8 Inspection
and Measurement
All boats are
subject to random inspection at any time during the regatta.
9 Docking, Launch & Lodging
Discounted slips
are available on a first come first serve basis for February - April. Free
dockage is available on a first come basis at Bald Head Island April 3-7,
2008. Launch & haul out may be
available at Deep Point Marina based on need.

10 Prizes
Prizes will be awarded in each class according to participation. Overall
winner will be named on the Bald Head Island Cup Perpetual Trophy and receive a
weekend stay on Bald Head Island.

In consideration
of the acceptance of my application in this regatta:
I hereby waive,
release and discharge any and all claims for damages or death, personal injury
or property damage which I may have, or which may subsequently accrue to me, as
a result of my participation in this boat race. This release is intended to discharge the organizing authorities,
Cape Fear Yacht club (CFYC) and Wrightsville Beach Ocean Racing Association
(WBORA), sponsor, Bald Head Island Limited, Shoals Club, promoting clubs BHIS,
WBORA, CFYC and Carolina Yacht club (CYC) officials, any involved
municipalities, other public entities, the UNITED STATES SAILING ASSOCIATION
(US SAILING) and all employees, volunteers, Juries, Race Committees and
sponsors of this regatta from and against any and all liability arising out of
or connected in any way with my participation in this regatta and social events
connected therewith, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or
carelessness on the part of the persons or entities mentioned above
I
further understand that serious accidents occasionally occur during boat
racing, and that participants in boat racing occasionally sustain mortal or
serious personal injuries, and/or property damages, as a consequence. I knowingly assume the risks of sailboat
racing and release and hold harmless all of the persons or entities mentioned
above who might otherwise be liable to me or my heirs or assigns for damages.
I agree to abide by the “rules” as defined in the
Racing Rules of Sailing; the regulations and sailing instructions issued for this
event. I am over 18 years old and agree
to the terms of this release. I give
permission for the free use of my name, picture and voice in any broadcast,
telecast or print media account of this regatta in any medium.
I acknowledge that equipment regulations and
inspection of vessels is for the sole purpose of ensuring fair competition and
does not serve as a certification of safety and that it is my sole
responsibility to maintain my boat in a properly equipped, seaworthy and safe
condition. I represent that my boat is
thoroughly seaworthy and safe and all equipment on board, including but not
limited to safety and emergency equipment, is properly stowed, in good working
condition and is appropriate for this regatta.
I further represent that I and any crew permitted aboard the boat are
competent and experienced, physically fit, and capable of swimming and treading
water in full sailing attire, and have been instructed in the use and location
of all safety equipment aboard the boat and of these conditions.
I have read and understand the above waiver and the
Notice of Race. I hereby warrant that
my boat will be outfitted, equipped and handled in accordance with these
Conditions; that she will have all the required equipment aboard; that she is seaworthy
in hull, rig and gear; and that she will be completely and competently
manned. Each Skipper must evaluate
weather and sea conditions and his/her crew and I acknowledge that I am
responsible for determining whether it is safe for my boat to participate or
continue to participate in any race of this regatta. I also accept full responsibility for the conduct of each member
of my crew and guest during the BHIR08.
